A Christmas to Remember

Once upon a sandy Christmas day on the beach, there lived a closely knitted pack of feral dogs that were adopted by a kind hooman. The leader of the pack was Winter, being the oldest and matriarch of the group, followed by Jumbo, the lone male dog with an ever protective instinct. Then, there was Doggy, the name of the sweet brown female dog, the most gentle and submissive among the pack.

Jumbo, the guardian.

Winter, the matriarch dog.

Doggy, the sweet lady.

One day, Doggy came around as I was chilling on the beach and I immediately took notice of her striking presence.

When our eyes met, it was as if all the stars aligned and everything fell into place. There was something about her that I liked, a demure kind of sweetness that took my pei breath away.

Without hesitation, I leaned forward slowly as she approached closer.

We sniffed at each other carefully and there were these stirrings of emotions which my wrinkly self has never felt before.

However, Winter and Jumbo were not too happy with our meeting and did not hesitate to make their displeasure known.

Winter the matriarch kept barking at Doggy while Jumbo kept me at bay in a hostile manner.

This went on for a while and poor Doggy was devastated by the fierce objection of her family.

Doggy was very sad over the incident but she knew that Winter and Jumbo were only trying to protect her, as they have been doing all this while. She was at a loss of what to do next.

Out of a sudden, a little diddy crab came rolling by and asked Doggy why she was so sad and lonely at the beach. After hearing Doggy's predicament, diddy crab said wisely “Yo yo furball, now listen to me, you’re da shiznit, yo! And ain’t no one gonna tell you how to live yo life, you hear? Now get yo ass movin and be the dawg that you are”. “Carpe diem” exclaimed the little diddy crab excitedly as he tapped away into the sea.

Doggy realized that diddy crab was actually right, this is her life and for once, she will do something for herself that would make her happy. Later, we met up again for a walk along the beach.

Our rendezvous did not last long though, upon seeing Doggy and me together, Winter and Jumbo continued with their unrelenting harassment.

Doggy tried to reason out with the pack to stop the fighting...

... but she was once again barked at ferociously.

The air was filled with hostility as both the white canines showed their disapproval with much intensity.

Then Jumbo bit me in the midst of an anger infused moment.

On seeing that Jumbo has bitten me in the heat of things, uncharacteristically, Doggy retaliated by biting Winter on the nape. Something the demure canine would never have done in the past.

Winter, hurt and surprised by the reaction of Doggy, ran off in despair, with everyone on her trail looking concerned.

After all the commotion, Jumbo had a moment to reflect on their actions…

… and soon came to realize that they could not imposed on Doggy any longer as she needed her space in life, and most importantly the freedom to love.

Freedom to experience what life has to offer, and whom she chose to be with.

So with that, Jumbo felt bad about the whole situation and came up to say sorry.

Finally, Doggy has gotten their true blessings to pursue her life as she wishes.

I looked into those beautiful eyes of hers with such fondness I could not deny.

We spent the day soaking up each other’s attention on the beach. It was a wonderful feeling.

I could feel my little heart pounding and skip a beat each time I am with her.

Pray tell me, is this puppy love?

Ohhhh - Hero! My mom says your post made her day! So cute. And doggy is a gorgeous girl. Do you still see her? It's cool that you could sort all the issues out with the rest of the pack... That is how it should be! Here the hoomans like to interfere when we try to set things straight. Especially the owners of those little fluffy ones. Thats why they all have a napoleon complex! :)

Hi Hero,

What a great love story you have going on there! I love watching you guys and gals play on the beach. It's winter here so no beach for me...plus I don't live near a beach. Mom said she loved the picture of the heart in the sky. Thanks for sharing.
