Fighting On

My weight has not been improving yet but my appetite is better now.

However, the ouchies have spread to other parts of my body... and this has gotten my hoomans to worry again.

This may not be the way I want to end the year with, but as in life, there are periods of joy and there are times of tribulation. But the love and pawsitive vibes I felt from my furiends, warmed my little pei heart during these dark days. As the hoomans are juggling between jobs, getting ready for the stork to bring hooman puppy home, and taking good care of me, they would not be able to help me update this blog often enough from now on. However, I promise that I would fight my sickie and be healthy again... but can you please promise me that when I'm back, you will still remember me, Hero the Sharpei.

Happy New Year to everyfurry and may the new year brings you truckload of nommies, houseful of stuffies, endless walkies, pawsome zoomies and most importantly, healthy bodies.

Note from the hooman: Hero has developed new lesions on other parts of his body, especially his scrotum. This may be due to on-going infection by more than one bacteria in the inflamed tissue. As advised, we will be administrating a different class of antibiotic to fight off the infection. I hope that by posting about hero's fight with FSF, apart from creating awareness about this dreadful congenital disease in sharpei, such posts would one day be a source of reference for someone out there searching for an answer to their beloved pei health issues.

oh boy. I had 2 shar pei- one lived to be 16 and was always healthy, though not a pretty-looking dog in old age. The other one, from presumably better blood lines, died at 6 1/2 from amyloid. :( Hero is a really handsome fellow. I hope he gets through this, but it is so scary and there isn't a good answer. I too talked to Vidt and Tintle... way back in the dark days.

OK, we're worried too Hero. Sending get better vibes for you, and vibes to your parents and puppy to help them help you.

Mango Momma here.

I applaud you for posting about Hero's illness and including photos. You are right that one gift of the internet is to be able to share concerns with other people who are going through the same thing.

This disease looks dreadful and my heart goes out to you. We are all thinking of hero and I am thinking of the humans as well. What a trying time.

I hope that Hero is able to feel the love that surrounds him and am hoping with all my heart for a recovery.

We would never, ever forget Hero. We will throw a party when he's back to blogging, in fact. We really do love him and we're worried about his family, too. You don't have to worry about blogging, but we would so appreciate just a few words about his progress when you can. As a Shar Pei, of course, I appreciate your posting about this, but as a friend I'm just concerned for Hero.

Oh dear, my heart goes to you and your family when I saw your ouchies. I know it is never easy for you and your family at the moment of the year but I know you're a tough fighter who will stay strong and keep fighting the diseases.

Our paws and fingers are crossed tightly for you and please don't worry about blogging as it's the least important thing for you to do now with the human puppy coming and all.

We definitely will not forget you and as Lola said, we'd be sure to throw you a big party when you come back!

HI Hero,

My poor furiend, you look really thin...I'm so worried about you and hope you make a full recovery soon. Do you think that maybe you are stressed because the hooman pup is coming and you know things are going to be different? I thought I read that this disease can act up because of stress?? Do the animal docs in your country know how to treat this? I know your hoomans are getting you the best care possible. You let me know if you need anything Hero. We won't forget you. You are one of my original blogging buddies when I first started blogging. You take care and I hope to hear that you are on the mend soon.

AARF Kasha the Dainty Great Dane

P.S...by the way on a good note I turned 9 years old yesterday!! That's really old for my breed.

I have just found your blog. I am so sorry Hero is having to go through this, and that you are also going through it with him. I have had Shar Pei for 25+ years and currently have 2 that both suffer with FSF. My boy Maddux has also had the same complications after his fever episodes as Hero has to include STSS and skin sloughing. It is so devastating to deal with for them and their owners. Pei are such wonderful, intelligent animals. They suffer in silence. I know you are doing everything you can for your boy. God Bless you all. I hope 2011 gets better for you.

Hero, there is no way we will forget about u. So don't be silly. U are the reason I started blogging and I will be very sad if I don't hear from u anymore. Pls promise us u will update us on your progress as we are extremely concern and we would love to be the first few to know u are doing better. Even if it is only a few lines, we will be happy.

Although the ouchies are spreading, we really hope you are also recovering at the same time. I hope the wound on the hind leg has recovered.

We love you very much and we wish you and your humans all the love and great health all round 2011!
